Thread subject: GTRL :: ASRX Release Notes

Saturday 1/17/2015 (to be released after Friday Night's Cup race)

TRACKS: Added Richmond

SOUNDS: Reduction from 90MB to 40MB by eliminating duplicate and unused sounds files. Restored original engine sounds to ARCA car (alternate engine may be re-added as an optional add-on). Interior skid sound is a lower pitch but higher volume (old skid vs. new skid).

CUP PHYSICS: Added Richmond package and default setup

TRUCK PHYSICS: Adjusted Richmond tire/engine heat and default setup

MODELS: Higher resolution mirror for ARCA and Truck (now same as CUP). Seat and mirror default position for each vehicle standardized so that the same player preference should position the seat and mirror similarly when moving from one vehicle to another (eliminating the need to adjust the seat and mirror when changing vehicles)

LAUNCHER 1.0.3: Upgrade process should not get an error due to file in use (you will see a "waiting" prompt for a few seconds). New button to connect to TeamSpeak for the selected race. Added 2 new items to 'Reset Profile Defaults' command:
[Graphic Options] Rearview_Front_Clip=0.67
[Graphic Options] Rearview_Back_Clip=1000.0
These settings override the track SCN file so that you should not see a window net in your side mirror at any track. It should no longer be necessary to edit each track SCN file.

[Multiplayer General Options] Delay Vehicle Graphics=0
This setting causes car skins to be loaded as they enter the server when you are on the track. You should no longer see temp cars.

Here is a complete list of the Profile changes made by the Launcher when selecting 'Reset Profile Defaults'. For any value it modifies, it adds a comment "Modified by ASRX Launcher" along with the original value in parenthesis.

Wow!! Looks great Rob. The interior skid sound may help me with the pitch being lower and louder. After all these years, Ive only just begun to hear tire sound since buying the Turtle beach head set. Not using force feed back and only using my eyes to look for grip or the lack of it. The doctor did inform me of loss in higher pitches. Lots and lots of details ( no more temp cars!!!)
Thank you Rob, cannot wait to run this. (~~)

Thanks, Randy. I uploaded a small fix at about 10:30am Saturday. I don't want to force everyone to re-download the CUP Model, so I didn't change the date. You may want to download it manually ( "Gen6 Model" ) if you are not seeing this new window. It also includes a fix for the interior poking out of the right rear C pillar on the Toyotas.

Sunday Night (1/18) Updates:

LAUNCHER 1.0.4:

- Another attempt to eliminate upgrade errors due to 'file in use' (you will see a "ping" prompt for a few seconds).

- New option to set max frame rate. Setting the max frame rate is recommended for most situations. On newer, more powerful machines, the sim will crank up to 200 FPS or higher, but this needlessly pushes your CPU. For users in this situation, a max frame rate of 120 is recommended. For older, less powerful machines, set the max frame rate to something you know the machine can hold. Achieving a constant frame rate is preferable to letting the machine try to achieve the highest frame rate possible and having it bounce around.

- The event list now shows the number of drivers currently on the server, the current track loaded, and the current session.

- Selecting local event enables TeamSpeak button that will start the program but not connect to a server (Thanks, Jerry)
- Bug fix for setup downloads being forgotten (Thanks, Cole)

A few optional updates have also been made (date not changed so the Launcher will not prompt you to download, but you can download manually):

MODELS: Second attempt to get seat and mirror default position for each vehicle standardized so that the same player preference should position the seat and mirror similarly when moving from one vehicle to another (eliminating the need to adjust the seat and mirror when changing vehicles)

USER INTERFACE: Improved loading screen and multiplayer page with league logos (Thanks, Larry)

Kentucky and Watkins Glen are on the work-bench right now and should be the next tracks released. Thanks to RobP for his help getting Richmond going. We'll assign a setup for Friday mid-week, but the default set is about as stable as we've been able to make it so far.

Awesome job Mr. Cobb. From what I've tested this mod is better than the original in so many ways. From initial download to feel on the track it's just simply impressive.

Wednesday Night (1/21 after DreamLAN races) Updates:

LAUNCHER 1.0.5:
- Program can now delete multiple files when instructed by SFF (needed for CUP tire changes - see below)

PLEASE upgrade to 1.0.5 when prompted. Otherwise, you will receive an error deleting files when the Launcher tries to update the Gen6 (CUP) Physics.

MODELS: Interior roof and pillars removed

TRACKS:
- Added Kentucky with default Truck and Cup setup
- Talladega texture and loading screen update

CUP PHYSICS:
- Kentucky package
- All tire files have been renamed because the sim was picking up ARCA tires that used the same filename. This will change Talladega to the intended tire (180mph without draft) as well as Pocono.

TRUCK PHYSICS:
- Kentucky package
- Cold brakes now stop like the CUP car (should lock up in pit box)

The combo box for the profile can appear empty because it does not drop down. Pressing the down arrow should expose the entries though. The program enumerates profiles by looking for a Userdata folder with a matching .PLR file inside of it.

I uploaded an update (no version change) to the Launcher to fix the drop-down that should also default the profile selection to the only profile if only one exists. It also allows for a different profile name to be used if there are multiple ASRX installs.

Saturday 2/7/2015

CUP PHYSICS:
- Homestead package (still working on tires and default setup)

The change to prevent the sim from automatically prepping the pit crew when it thinks you are low on fuel has had the unintended side-effect of retaining the last used fuel setting. The fuel setting now behaves like tires. If you request 1 can of fuel, the sim will keep this setting until you change it.

HINT: If topping off with fuel, don't change the fuel setting down from 2 cans. The pit stop will complete when the fuel cell is full. Keeping the setting on 2 cans will prevent a possible problem on a future stop when you forget to restore the setting to 2 cans and you want to make sure you get a fill-up.

TRACKS:
- Updated Daytona (no physics changes, just some graphic updates and removed default setups)

TRUCK PHYSICS:
- Organizational update so we can more easily work off a base package. No changes to any aero or suspension behavior.

TRUCK SKINS:
- Base Trucks package now contains 5 paints that can be used for new drivers who don't yet have their own skins. The paints are located in the "Chevy" folder.

SETUPS:
- Fixed setups for ARCA and Truck can be found on the 'Setups' tab. The setups are placed in the proper folder for your profile and are labeled ARCA_*.svm or TRUCK_*.svm. These are the setups most recently used at GTRL for fixed-setup races.

Tire wear is visible to plugins (the spotter uses it). I don't know why the GIDhud plugin does not work. It sounds like Chris has contacted the developer.

Rob. I was at one time able to get the GID plugin to work with the original ARCA. Not sure what version of the GID it was. To do so, I had to rename the ARCA.exe as rFactor.exe. Problem was, game would only load 1 time after that and then would crash every time. But it would work that one time. I may have also had to disable some plugins to do so. Can't remember exactly, was probably 2 or more years back. Perhaps this tidbit may help you though.

I've tried 1.13, 1.14, and 1.15. Same result renaming rFactor.exe (have had to do that for all ISI based sims to get GID to work. Soon as you hit race, it crashes to desktop.

Still hoping to hear back from the developer sometime in the near future to get some help with this.

Hey Rob,

Is there a way to add a "Race 5 of 20", so that for a particular series, someone joining a race has an idea of how far along in a series they are? I was thinking somewhere on the launcher, such as the first box with the series name. Might help guys decide which series to join if they are looking for something to compete for points in.

Thanks!

When selecting a race in the Launcher, there is a hyperlink at the bottom that will take you to the series information page where you can see the full schedule, results, standings, contact info, etc.

Just a quick update.

I got some email communication from Fazerbox this morning. He's been very busy. I think he might be able to help with troubleshooting the issues we're having with the plugin crash. I'll update when I know more.

More news!

Fazerbox downloaded ASRX, and has the GID plugin working. He said it should work with both ARCA.EXE and ARCA4GB.EXE.

The only issue at this point is he hasn't removed tire wear/heat from the plugin yet. I've let him know that it's imperative that this be removed to stay true to the feature set of the sim and it's intended purpose. As soon as I get a response from him I'll let you all know.

Looks like we'll have a GID HUD soon!

How would the rest of us know if that's truly what is happening or if people who use this plugin can actually see the tire wear, heat etc.? I'm not sure I like it at all. We have run this sim for years without anything like that, I'm not sure it's necessary.

For me I like the GIDhud, it allows me to place the info around my screen that I would otherwise have to push my LEDbutton to cycle to that area, when I just like leaving that box on the Pitstop Menu. I don't need the tire wear or heat option, but I do like the driver grid and map part, the map is a lot nicer then the straight line to see exactly where the cars are at on the track.

Posted by Ross Frisken on 03-06-2015 13:08

They are still there.....I found them both last night....but you have to be right on the white line in the middle of both turns and hard on the gas. It is almost like the track grabs the LF and the rear end just loops. Drivers will need to watch that tonight.

Posted by Rob Cobb on 03-06-2015 15:09
#63

I think you're right, Ross. I'm taking one more shot at it. The white line (and a few inches on either side) did have a lot more grip than the track and I think it was pulling down the front end breaking the rear loose.

Sorry for the late download, but it's worth it if we get rid of the death spot.

Other areas affected by the white line grip reduction to match the low groove:

Pit lane
Dog-leg
High lane on the back-stretch
Inside by the wall on the apron

So, watch out leaving your pit stall and use the two lanes of apron just off the track for exit.

Thanks for the feedback regarding bogus cautions. There have been a few bad cautions thrown for cars entering pit road. The sim appears to throw the caution for a funky angle or for slowing down to the 35mph range. We'll be taking a look at this. Here is a thread documenting the determination of the current caution sensitivity setting.

Also, the CUP damage model (aero impact, mechanical effects) are not settled. Many have noted that you can take a pretty good whack without suffering much damage. The side of the car is stiffer than the ARCA and Truck vehicle, but once damage appears it's effect on performance is not enough right now. Tires should be getting cut down already.

Thanks, but just so there's no false impressions...I'm no track builder. The tracks in this sim were either created by The Sim Factory or imported from other rFactor mods (mostly JNS Tracks). The work we do to prepare them is sometimes an AIW overhaul, a few texture tweaks, cameras, and then tire and aerodynamic development.

Fortunately, Giovanni has track building expertise and has offered to help. He's already fixed issues at California.

Well I can honestly say and think I speak for everyone when I say you all do a kick ass job here. %^
It's really to much to list but everyone just goes above and beyond with the tasks associated doing this week in (sometimes days) and week out.
I'm glad to be back and thanks for having me. Really digging the new cars and everything else that's going on.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but I've been having a blast the past few weeks and wanted to share my appreciation.

Couldn't have said it better Bill. I can't thank Rob enough for all he does. I feel bad for him for the racing thats been going on. I want on the track also but not with all the cautions.

Bugs?

-Options button is gone
-Add-ons & Tools is empty
-When I click "Download Selected Items", the launcher tells me there is nothing to download and crashes after I click OK.

What is the d3d9.dll warning for? This file is specific to ASRX_GID and/or other plugins that use an overlay (TeamSpeak overlay).

Oops. Looks like I directed the download to the server version. Please delete C:\ASRX\ARCA Dedicated.exe. I'll be updating again after we troubleshoot a crash when downloading tracks for some people.

d3d9.dll is a core DLL of DirectX 9: http://www.processlibrary.com/en/directory/files/d3d9/19077/

I am checking for d3d9.dll so that I can warn users if they don't have DirectX 9 installed. Otherwise, the game just crashes.

Launcher is now version 1.5:
- Fixed crash for some users when downloading tracks
- Pulling proper update during download (server or client)

If you upgraded to version 1.4 and you no longer have a 'TeamSpeak' or 'Options' button (the game will also crash if you try to launch), remove the 'ARCA Dedicated' file in your C:\ASRX folder.

A few notes on Richmond for this week:

Trucks: Lap times are too fast and the left rear tire is a bit cool. The package is fun to drive, so we're going to leave it alone and focus on the Cup car because it needs more work.

Cup: Expect an update on Thursday. Please don't spend a lot of time on setups until the update is released.

TRACKS:
- Richmond updated (CUP grip level)
- Martinsville updated (restart fix - apologies to GOMR :sorry: )

CUP PHYSICS:
- Richmond package: First attempt to simulate the 2015 rule changes. The engine is meant to simulate the tapered spacer. It produces about 530 ft-lbs of torque at 7000 RPM and a little over 725 hp. Redline is now 9000 RPM. The rear spoiler height has been lowered and other aerodynamic changes have been made to balance the car. We also fixed a previous oversight that did not include the weight of the driver.

Thanks for all you do with this sim Rob. I do have a question...this exe still only allows 3 controllers...is there any way to add the code (assuming it is available) that the Steam version of rFactor has that increased the controllers to 6?. I bought a shifter conversion usb connector that does not work as I have the Bodnar mod for the pedals as well. I know ISI is not supporting that in the non Steam version that most everybody has.

We're not in control of the source code, Ross. So, we are limited to things that can be done with plugins. I'm not aware of a way to add additional controller support via plugins.
